Pour Love Into Local: Supporting Local Breweries After Winter Weather Disruptions

Recent winter weather in North Carolina disrupted the day-to-day routines for many across the state. For local breweries and hospitality businesses, the timing has been especially challenging, as the post-holiday months of January and February are already historically slower, with reduced foot traffic. Recent weather-related closures, especially over two consecutive weekends, have been particularly difficult, making it harder for many of our small businesses to maintain momentum.

“Winter is always a tough stretch for breweries. When you add a couple of weeks with back-to-back winter storms, the impact adds up quickly,” said Lisa Parker, executive director of the North Carolina Craft Brewers Guild.  “As the weather clears, we are encouraging people to pour some love into their local community by supporting their local breweries. Our taprooms serve as more than simply somewhere to enjoy a beer - offering warm and welcoming gathering spaces to visit with friends and neighbors.”

As the sun returns and conditions improve, please consider supporting the breweries in your community by visiting their taprooms or picking up something to go from a to-go cooler. It helps these small businesses keep their doors open and staff working, ultimately allowing them to continue serving their communities.

Here are some easy ways to support your local brewery this week:

  • Visit a brewery or taproom when travel conditions are safe

  • Purchase a gift card for a future visit

  • Pick up beer to-go where permitted

  • Buy brewery merchandise

  • Encourage family and friends to meet you for your next pint out

  • Share your next brewery visit on social media

North Carolina’s craft breweries are more than just places to grab a beer. They are neighborhood gathering spots, employers, and contributors to local economies. Your continued support is needed to help sustain the small businesses that bring people together year-round.
